Nestle To Launch Ruby Chocolate KitKat Bar

Nestlé is rolling out a ruby chocolate KitKat on Friday. Americans can order them online, while people in Japan and South Korea can buy them in stores.

The official name of the $3.60 wafer treats — KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby — is a mouthful, even for die-hard sweet-o-holics. But that fits, considering they’re a big deal for the candy universe.

Sublime Ruby marks the consumer debut of rosy-hued, subtly berry-flavored ruby chocolate — the first new kind of chocolate in 80 years — unveiled in September by Swiss chocolatier Barry Callebaut.

The ruby chocolate "offers a new taste experience, a kind of berry flavor made from the all-natural ruby cocoa bean with a characteristic pink hue," Nestlé  notes in a release.

Sublime Ruby was created by Japanese pastry chef Yasumasa Takagi, who’s dreamed up numerous flavors of the chocolate wafers.
