Flamingo At An Illinois Zoo Is Euthanized After Child Throws A Rock At It

Zoo officials in Illinois are hoping a tragedy can become a learning experience.

An elementary school student on a field trip to the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington threw a rock at a flock of flamingos, striking one in the leg. The injuries were too great so the bird had to be put down.

The Monday incident has led the zoo to work with he child’s family to make it a learning experience. Before the tragedy, there were 25 of the beautiful pink birds in the flock,.
