America Is Losing News Jobs By The Thousands

America is losing news jobs and newspapers are feeling it most.

A Pew Research Center survey released yesterday shows jobs in the nation's newsrooms fell by 25-percent from 2008 to 2018. Newspapers, radio, TV, cable, and other news media employed about 114-thousand people in 2008. By last year, the number was down to 86-thousand.

Newspapers saw the biggest drop, falling by almost half.

In 2008, 71-thousand people worked for papers but only 38-thousand did last year, a 47-percent decline. Digital news jobs may be growing, but not fast enough to offset the newspaper bloodletting.
