The Doomsday Clock Is Updated Today

Scientists will update the Doomsday Clock today.

The nonprofit Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists decides every January whether events of the past year have pushed the world closer or further from total annihilation. The Doomsday Clock has been at two minutes to midnight for the past two years.

The closer to "midnight," the more danger civilization faces from the "existential threats" of things like nuclear war and climate change. The clock was created in 1947, during the cold war.
