Date Announced For Kobe Bryant Public Memorial At Staples Center

The date for Kobe Bryants memorial has been set. And some could say it's pretty symbolic.

The memorial service for Bryant and the eight other people killed in January's helicopter crash will be held on February 24th, 2020 at the Staples Center.

The date 2/24 is symbolic because as you all know, Bryant wore the No. 24 during the latter part of his NBA career and his daughter, Gianna, wore the No. 2 for her basketball team.

The other victims included Gianna's teammates Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester; Alyssa's parents, John and Keri; Payton's mother, Sarah; assistant girls basketball coach Christina Mauser, and the pilot of the helicopter Ara Zobayan.

Staples Center seats about 20,000 people for non-sporting events. No formal announcement has been made yet about the memorial, the time it occurs or tickets for the public.

The memorial is on a Monday and takes place between two Lakers home games.

All other games scheduled that day for the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Kings are still set to take place.
