Scientists Discover An Exoplanet Where It Rains Iron

Scientist say they've discovered an alien world where it regularly rains molten iron. And that’s just one of its quirks.

The exoplanet, called WASP-76b, orbits a star 640-light-years away, with an orbit so close that a year is just 43 hours. Temperatures on the planet can exceed 43-hundred-and 50-degrees Fahrenheit. That's hot enough to vaporize solid iron on the planet.

When the vapor cools on the dark side of the planet, scientists think it condenses and falls as rain. The phenomenon was discovered through the use of the Very Large Telescope in Chile and the planet was discovered in 2013.
