NASA is heading back to the moon today and Krispy Kreme is celebrating with a new treat. The Artemis I mission launches today and in honor of the blastoff, the chain is offering a special doughnut that’s available for one day only … today.
The “Artemis Moon Doughnut” is stuffed with a cheesecake-flavored filling - as a nod to the old adage about the moon being made of cheese - and it’s topped with cookies and creme frosting with a swirl of cookie pieces made to look like the moon. It can be found at participating Krispy Kreme shops across the country, while supplies last.
“The Artemis I mission is a proud moment, and we are in awe of the amazing Americans behind the world’s most powerful rocket,” explains Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme’s global chief brand officer. “So, we created these delicious doughnuts to enjoy while you watch the launch.”
- This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has done space-inspired promos. In May, they gave away free original glazed doughnuts after astronomers released the first image of a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.
- They also celebrated NASA’s Perseverance Rover landing on Mars with a reddish Mars doughnut in February 2021.
- And in August 2017, Krispy Kreme commemorated the total solar eclipse with glazed doughnuts covered in chocolate.
