Research Says People Love Searching For The Perfect Holiday Gift

Just about everyone enjoys receiving presents, but new research shows a lot of people also enjoy shopping for others. Half of Americans think it will be “harder than ever” to find the perfect present for those on their nice list this year, according to a new poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults. But it turns out, most folks actually enjoy the search, with 65% comparing it to hunting for treasure.

The survey reveals:

  • Seven in 10 respondents (71%) say it’s exciting to hunt for the right gifts and 52% claim the search is just as fun as the purchase.
  • More than half (57%) of holiday shoppers keep a backup gift in mind in case they can’t find what they’re looking for.
  • People are willing to search an average of three weeks before giving up on a hard to find item.
  • The gifts Americans expect to be toughest to find this holiday season include gaming consoles (31%), video games (29%), smartphones (23%), clothing (20%) and food items (20%).
  • Respondents also say some items are more expensive this year, even though the product hasn’t physically changed, including food items (58%), clothing (46%), smartphones (43%), beauty products (37%) and shoes (36%).
  • 80% of those polled say they’ve been successful in getting hard to find gifts. When they do find the gift they’re shopping for, 55% say it’s “extremely satisfying” and 20% call it “pure bliss.”
