Nearly Two-Thirds Of Americans Only Clean Their House To Avoid Judgment

Spring is the favorite season for many, but the annual chore of spring cleaning that comes with it? That’s something a lot of us would rather not have to do, but 55% of Americans do it anyway, according to a new survey. And it takes the average person four days and 19 minutes to organize and clean their entire home.

The poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults also reveals:

  • Not everyone dreads spring cleaning, for eight in 10 it makes them feel more in control of their lives.
  • Some folks also believe it boosts their mood (54%), reduces stress (49%), increases focus (48%) and even improves their physical health (45%).
  • Respondents say the most organized room is their living room (26%) and the dirtiest room is the kid’s room (17%).
  • For 80%, cleaning is a form of exercise and listening to their favorite music makes it more enjoyable. The top three songs people like to listen to while cleaning are “Good Feeling” by Flo Rida (21%), “Livin' on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi (17%), and "Roar" by Katy Perry (16%).
  • For organizational inspiration, people look to lifestyle magazines (38%), home improvement stores (34%), social media (33%), organization TV shows (32%) and advice from loved ones (31%).
  • While some folks are dancing around the house and actually having fun cleaning up, 63% of respondents admit to only cleaning and organizing to avoid being judged by guests and relatives.
