Study: The Cure For Baldness Might Be In Hairy Moles

The secret to combating baldness might just be hiding in hairy moles. The bold claim for the bald can be traced back to researchers at the University of California, Irvine, who discovered a molecule called osteopontin that’s found in moles that sprout hair. This got them thinking…if osteopontin can trigger stem cells to grow thick hairs, why can it be used to harness the same lustrous energy all over the head?

After getting some encouraging results with mice, the team is prepping for human trials this summer. The treatments may involve injecting osteopontin directly into the scalp using microneedles, similar to the ones used for Botox. If all goes well, men may be able to expect thick manes in their future.
