Study: Cats Are More Expressive Than We Think

The stereotype of cats being aloof may be all wrong. It turns out felines are actually quite expressive. Researchers at UCLA began studying kitties in 2021 to learn more about how they communicate, and found that cats displayed at least 276 different facial expressions. About 46-percent of those were friendly, 37-percent were aggressive and 17-percent were ambiguous. The study's co-author Brittany Florkiewicz says she's considering creating an app that would allow people to record their cats' facial expressions to determine what feelings they're expressing. She also notes that she now likes cats.
