Recall: Pre-Packaged Lettuce & Spinach

A recall has been announced in seven U.S. states for pre-packaged spinach and salad kits after they were found to be infected with listeria.

That’s the word from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which says the lettuce and spinach used in the Bright Farms products were likely infected at the site of the grower in Pompton Plains, New York. Listeria, which is most harmful to pregnant women, children and senior citizens, kills about 260 Americans a year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The recalled products were sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, the FDA reports. They can be returned to their point of purchase for a full refund, a rep for Bright Farms says.
