Keurig Debuts Compostable Coffee Pods, But There’s A Catch

Keurig has introduced K-Rounds, a new 100% plastic-free, compostable coffee pod designed to address environmental concerns associated with traditional plastic K-Cups. The innovative new pods are made from roasted coffee beans encased in a plant-based coating, but the catch is you’ll have to buy a new machine to use them. They’ll only work with Keurig's latest coffee machine, the Keurig Alta brewer. While the K-Rounds promise a more eco-friendly option by being compostable, they’re not compatible with older Keurig machines and will be sold at a premium price. The company plans to roll out these new coffee pods after consumer testing and certification for compostability, with a broader launch expected next year.
