The World’s Top Beaches With The Bluest Waters

Whether the beach is covered in rocks, sand or shells, people often look for the bluest waters for their seaside vacation and research shows that comes with a lot of benefits. Being near, in or under water is good for our well-being, as blue spaces have a calming effect that helps lower stress and anxiety. And a new study reveals the beaches with the bluest water in the world.

Travel agency CV Villas set out to find the beaches with the bluest waters, based on scientific color theory.

  • Here’s the scientific part - Their team analyzed the RGB color codes of unfiltered Google map images of 200 beaches worldwide to see how closely they compare to the YInMn Blue, an “intensely vibrant blue shade” discovered in a lab at Oregon State University.
  • It turns out, some of the bluest waters can be found in Europe, especially in Greece. It’s home to five of the top 10 beaches on the list.
  • But the number one spot goes to Pasqyra Beach, or Mirror Beach, in Albania, named for its water reflecting the sun like a mirror.
  • To reach this beach, visitors have to take a dirt road and go down a rocky path, but it still gets pretty crowded later in the day.
