Is It Ever Okay To Cry In The Office?

I have definitely cried at work. On the rare occasion it happens, I've tried to do it in private instead of running through the halls sobbing.

There’s no doubt that emotions can get the better of us on the job, but is it ever okay to really show those emotions in the work place?  Well, a new survey sought to find the answer to that very question.

A new poll by Accountemps finds that 45% of people say they’ve cried at work, and it seems most bosses are okay with it, on occasion. I thought that number would be much higher.

The survey finds that 44% of CFOs say crying in the office is acceptable as long as it isn’t something that happens every day, while 30% say it has no negative affect and actually shows you’re human, and only 26% say it’s never okay, because people will perceive an employee who cries as  weak or immature.

It turns out, workers have a harsher opinion than CFOs when it comes to folks crying at the office. While 38% say it’s fine occasionally, and 31% say it’s totally acceptable, 32% say it’s totally unacceptable.

Of course, tears aren’t the only emotion folks can express on the job. The survey finds that 52% of workers have lost their temper at the office, with 65% saying it was directed at a colleague and 37% saying it was directed at their manager.
